Happy Holidays from Defying Gravity. We have an exciting 2018 planned for our non-profit and for the team. The team competed well over the course of the fall and several members qualified for the division championship in January. This two day competition will set the field for the national competition in February. Check out the TEAM SITE for updates and news.
Due to the fires along the Highway 12 corridor we did not get to do our late summer early fall trash pickup. The spring date will be announced once we have a better idea of snow melt and temperatures.
Do you like beer? Join us on March 7, 2018 for the KettleHouse Community UNite. Defying Gravity will be at the north-side taproom location from 5pm-8pm to answer any questions about our non-profit and what we have planned for 2018. Defying Gravity receives $1 for every pint sold. All donation money from the event supports The Missoula Climbing Team.
Have a great New Year!
The DG Team
What a busy summer! We have been a little silent on this end of our organization but that is because we have been super busy on the team front. The Gnar pirates took the summer off from competition but the DG crew have been busy at work.
The team website was completely redesigned by the wonderful Kiondra. A process that started in mid March and was finished by early August, our team finally has a website that represents their ambition, talent and dedication.
We have secured a new team sponsor for the upcoming competition season. Drum Coffee has joined our efforts to advance youth climbing in Missoula.
We have hired a new assistant coach! Bridget Creel has joined our staff. Bridget joined the team for a few events in Idaho last year and accepted our offer to join the team coaching staff. She brings a wealth of experience and is a wonderful person. Check out her BIO on the Gnar Pirate page.
We renewed our agreement with Montana Department of Transportation and will continue to participate in the Adopt A Highway program. This is our first renewal and third year overseeing mile marker 4-6 on the Highway 12 corridor.
Team practice started this week. We welcomed two new members to the existing 17 member youth team.
Comp season is nearly upon us. The first comp on the books for the team will be the Portland Boulder Rally. Now in it’s 7th year the PBR is becoming one of the nations premier competition events. For the seventh consecutive year we will have team representation at the event. Ten team members will travel to Portland to compete. Check out the team page after October 7th for pictures and an update.
We will have more exciting news as we progress through the autumn. Thanks for checking in and keep us posted if you have any questions.

Happy New Year. With the beginning of 2017 Freestone Climbing expanded to it’s new location at 1200 Shakespeare St. The opening was on January second and several of our team members were the first through the new doors. The Missoulian published an article about the new gym and you can find it HERE.
Our youth climbing team, the Gnar Pirates, had four kids travel and compete in Salt Lake City at the regional competition on December tenth. All four kids qualified for the divisional competition.
The divisional competition was held January 14-15 in Boulder, CO. All four kids climbed well but narrowly missed out on qualifying for the national competition.

Defying Gravity and the Gnar Pirates will be doing our summer adopt a highway trash pickup this Sunday, July 24th. If you are interested, please met us at Lolo Hot Springs at 10:30am for a safety meeting and to go over the schedule of the clean up. Thanks!
Defying Gravity would like to welcome our newest competition sponsor Rocky Mountain Climbing Gear. Rocky Mountain Climbing Gear uses recycled materials to manufacture rock climbing holds. Owner Carl Keene has worked in the aerospace industry for over 16 years, building and designing high performance, composite aircraft parts. While working in aerospace, Carl was always looking for a way to use the materials that he saw being wasted on a daily basis. Carl now recycles everything from plastics to epoxy, to make a strong and durable, very realistic nontoxic climbing hold products. Rocky Mountain Climbing Gear holds have been tested our all environments. Our test holds have been smashed, beaten, thrown and left out in the elements. Rocky Mountain Climbing Holds will not chip, crack or fade in any environment.
The rains came and we had to postpone our highway clean up. Stay tuned for the soon to be rescheduled date.
